The obvious advantage of used semi trucks is that you will save money. The downside it that you are getting an older truck that may not be as efficient as a newer one. The other concern that you will have if you buy used is that you will likely incur higher maintenance costs. In general you are better off with a new truck if you can afford one.

The next thing that you are going to have to do is to decide what kind of driving you are going to be doing. The needs for a truck that is used for local delivery are very different than those used for long distance highway driving. If you are doing long distance trucking the big thing is fuel efficiency at highway speeds. You are also going to want to pay attention to things like seat comfort and you are pretty much going to have to have a sleeper. For local delivery you can dispense with most of this to save you money and weight.

The next thing that you are going to have to decide on is the right dealer to buy from. The big thing that you are going to want to pay attention to here is the maintenance department, anybody can sell you a truck but many can’t provide the maintenance and service that is needed. Since you are going to have to rely on the dealer in large part for this it is important that you make sure that they are up to the job before you buy. It is a good idea to ask other truckers where they bought their trucks.

The last decision that you are going to have to make is on which truck to buy, there are a lot of factors that need to be considered here. The goal with any truck is to choose the one that will make you the most possible money. That means that you are going to have to consider things like the cost of the truck, the fuel efficiency, carrying capacity, maintenance costs and resale value. Finding the right balance here can be tricky, so you will need to consider your personal needs and then do some research on the available options.
